Forearc carbon sink reduces long-term volatile recycling into the mantle

We have demonstrated that a previously uinrecognized microbial sink is trapping substantial amounts of deep carbon in the forearc instead of escaping through volcanoes or sinking into Earth’s interior

Living at the Extremes: Extremophiles and the Limits of Life in a Planetary Context

We compiled the current knowledge on the limit of life and tried to place it in planetary context, looking at what we might learn from Earth based life while searching for life on other planetary bodies.

A discussion of the relationship between metal utilization in metabolism and the evolution of different metabolic pathways through time. We also attempt to reconstruct the wiring diagram of Earth’s geobiochemical cycles at different timepoint during our planet evolutionary history.

From extreme environments to human pathogens: an evolutionary journey

In this brif perspective I discuss together with Costa Vetriani the link between extremophiles, especially the Epsilonproteobacteria, and human pathogens, and how we can used comparative evolutionary genomic to study the evolutionary transition from free-living to obbligate pathogen.
